looking to buy 01 allraod
Hi, I'm an A8 owner, looking at a 2001 allroad.
52,000 miles, 2 owner, very nice. Front rotors are warped bad - how much to replace them? Can they just be turned or is replacement the usual outcome? The digital display (info center) has several dim pixels - is this common and does it mean big trouble down the road as far as needing to replace the display?
Any other areas of concern with this model? Help is appreciated as I may be pulling the trigger soon.
Thanks!

Rare to turn the rotors, most likely you will have to replace them.
ZIMMERMANN Front Brake Disc $67.38 each @http://www.europartsdirect.com
Warped front rotors seems to be the allroad's weakest link.
I don't know about the dim pixels.
See the link which was a couple of posts prior to yours concerning 2001 reliability.

https://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/94979.phtml</a

How much for the car?
And add in a lot for the cluster and $100 per rotor. But....Audi Financial just completed a lease termination Auction with more on the way. There are MANY 01 and 02 allroads out there. All are priced well and in most cases still have factory warranty left and are CPO cars.

display is fixed with a new $800 cluster, IIRC, and will get progressively worse
rotors need to be replaced. Check ecs-tuning.com for a price.
To repeat what paulroad said, I'd look at a 2002 with some warranty left. lots of lease returns available. Unless it's a stickshift car. Those are rare. I'd also look at warranties. Parts aren't cheap, as you know, having an A8.

Well... two just went on e-bay...
less than 40K miles..still with factory warranty for $22500-23500. I think its a bit on the high side given the known repairs. I also HIGHLY suggest you get the car's history from the local dealer and have a dealer give it the 100.00 once over...If it has less than 50K...enven 49K then you can get an afterrmarket warranty that will cover most of the car.. not brakes, but certaintly the cluster.

Warranty does matter.
Bought my 2001 4 months ago (44k/$24k on Ebay). Fixed squeaking steering wheel and dead battery under warranty and saved $400 during the first 2 weeks...
Will go to AWB for extended warranty...

Re: Well... two just went on e-bay...
EBay tends to be wholesale prices, if given the chance I much rather pay the same or a little more to buy a car locally that I can check out completely before buying. Also, I have a trade-in (not the A8) and that means EBay is not an option for this deal. Thanks for your reply though - it's fun to be on another section of this great forum. Audi owners are a great bunch of folks.
