Looking to buy a portable navigation unit. Any thoughts on the Magellan Roadmate 800?

I run with the Garmin 330 for quite some time now and it's reasonably good. The only real advantage is to use it as a handheld device (took it so some hiking trips and it worked great) for some time because it runs on Batteries as well.
It's now coming it it's years of becoming "older" technology, no Bluetooth link, no Anti theft or other fency stuff, but it will get the job done.
My next unit is most likely a Magellan RM 800, it received great ratings and reviews, looks not so much like a small "odd box" and somehow it aquires Satellites a bit faster than the Garmin (tested with a Friend who owns one), no idea why.

Garmin Street-pilot 2720 with real-time traffic updates
I bought the Garmin, above, and have been pretty happy with it. It makes a few mistakes, and I think it looks like hell, and makes the car interior look like a livery, but at least I'm not constantly lost trying to find vendors hidden away on one way streets in Queens, or stuck in traffic unnecessarily. The real selling points were the turn-by-turn aural instructions with street names, so you can keep your eyes on the road, and the optional FM TMC traffic receiver, which feeds info on traffic and construction, etc, and maps alternate routes when available. In NYC, at least, I often get re-routed from my normal route to avoid congestion and construction. One problem: the electrical connection in the back is not very secure, and keeps wiggling loose at inopportune moments.

Garmin Streetpilot i5. Very compact. Uses 2 AAs. Preloaded software. Works perfectly and intuitively. Cheap. Anything else is overkill or fashion, IMHO.

http://www.garmin.com/products/spi5/</a
