Default Looking at this car, any input from you guys will be very helpful

The car in question is a 2001 with 53K miles. Carfax shows the following:

Owner 1: Lease in CT for 5 months
Owner 2: Owned in VT for 2 years and 10 months.

The car then gets sold at an auction on 2/1/05 and has not been drven since.

It shows up at a local Audi dealer a year and 3 months later. When I first called the dealer they said it's a CPO. Then they told me it wasn't but they can get it certified. Is that possible since original warranty expired? Also they told me that I won't be getting a CPO contract from them, but I should get a letter from Audi 10-14 days after I purchase the car. Is that correct?

I have two areas that I'm unsure about:
1) It hasn't been driven for over a year.
2) The original warranty has expired.

Otherwise the car looks good, clean, all serives have been performed by the dealer.

Let em know what you guys think.

Thanks!

Default Its all correct..however...

Having it classified as a CPO is meaningless unless the dealer is not only inspecting it in 300 areas, but making any and all corrections to what they find.

You are to be given this report and the status of any corrections. Most people don't know or ask for this.

I would have the car looked at by an independant mechanic fo another opinion.

If you want to you can call Audi and ask them for a copy of the contract prior to the purchase. They should oblige.

Default From Experience...

If the car looks clean and drives well and is priced right, then have an indy mechanic check it out, check the regional forum for a recommendation in your area. When I got my CPO I know for a fact that it was not inspected -- I brought it back to the dealer 3 times for very obvious items not being inspected (and not up to CPO standards). My issues were minor, others have had major issues on a CPO car (bent frame). You may even want to express your concerns w/ the serivce manager and let him know big brother will be watching.
