malfunction indicator lamp - fault code PO118
2002 Allroad 70k miles:
MIL was diagnosed by two different non-Audi dealer fault scanners, both with the same result - fault PO118 = Electronic Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit High Input.
Is this as simple as doing a DIY install of a new sensor? I hear a great deal of chat about how this one sensor can cause so many other problems, such as decreased performance; damage to catalytic conv, etc. At the same time I don't want to assume it is easy to resolve and creat addition problems long term. I also do not have money to burn.
Advance Auto states I need part part: Wells SKU SU5404 though it is special order part and they can not tell me where it is located.
Need advise, location of part and where it should be purchased.

G0 to you dealer and get one. They are in stock about 30 dollars.
it pops into the coolant crossover behind the Pass side head, after you pull the clip. Get a new retaining clip as well. Get some G12 to top off your coolant.
