Memory Steering Wheel Settings

Memory Steering Wheel Settings
Just orderd a 2002 allroad with satnav, memory seats and steering wheel settings? Can anybody comment on the memory steering settings. How does it work ?

Works just like memory seat; only it acts on the steering column...
The adjustment release under the manual steering wheel is replaced by servos and motors that adjust the steering column up and down and in and out. I wish mine had it.

Wow...
I didn't know that the memory wheel was available as an option in the U.S. Pretty cool.
Doesn't some manufacturer also have the steering column automatically retract and move up to ease entry and exit? Is it Lexus that does that?
BTW, congrats JLB!!! What color did you get?

Re: Wow...
I think Audi's A6 4.2 and A8 have the ability to move the wheel out of the way for entry/exit.
I don't believe the power wheel adjustments are available on the allroad in North America - JLB's response indicates he's in Aussieland ;-)

Re: Memory Steering Wheel Settings
Basically the levers are replaced by a 4-way button that controls the wheel in 4 directions. One can store the setting for the wheel, seat and mirror. The electric wheel adjustment also comes with the easy entry function that automatically lift the steering to the highest position once the key is removed. It's sounds like a gimmick but is actually pretty useful.

Doesn't that seem like a strange decision...
on the part of Audi of America? I would think that the power/memory steering wheel would be a popular option here in the States where we love gizmos.
