Default More details on my coilover conversion...

I replaced the air springs with Bilstein PSS9's. The PSS9's have 9 adjustment settings for compression and rebound. The suspension can be ajustment with vehicle on the ground. I also seriously considered the KW V3's. In researching the KW's, I found that a few owners considered them too stiff. So stiff, that they were replaced with something softer. IN defense of KW suspensions, I do believe that KW V3's are a slighty better suspension. I read somewhere that the KW V3's are hand-made.

For those considering a conversion, many of the standard aftermarket suspensions will not be a good fit. Once installed, you may have to adjust the spring coilover spring seat to the highest level, possibly beyond the manufacturers recommended settings. The ar's suspension setup\geometry is different from the other C5 based vehicles.

Fronts with PSS9's. Vehicle not drivable due to being "slammed" on the ground. KW V3's may work due to stiffer springs. Fender to ground measurement 25"

How is the ride. IMHO, it's a night and day difference. Would I do it again? Yep. The conversion was far more difficult than anticipated, especially since I had to remove everything twice. I couldn't have done it by myself. Removing and re-installing the rear takes two people and a crowbar or two...

The PSS9 fronts are set to around 5 or 6. The fronts seem to be ok for me in any setting. The rears are on setting one, the stiffest. All of the other were too bouncy.

This thing is a BEAST. No, it doesn't handle like a Spec. Miata, but fits my needs. I wonder what the Ur AR would be like with K04's.

Default Holy Cow, that is another great conversion on the books, great job!!! Are you going to place it on

allroadfaq as well? Would be nice if we had a shopping list of what you've had to buy to get it done.
Enjoy your "new" ride !!!

Default will you write this up in detail and submit to allroadFAQ.com???

Default Wow. That's a different approach. That is a lot of spacer. I do have my KW cranked to beyond

manufacturers specs, but I did speak to an engineer at KW and they told me that as long as I don't get any topping out of the damper on negative loading that I'm fine. Perhaps the KWs have a larger range of adjustment?

What did you decide to do with the air lines, height sensors, suspension warning light, etc?

Default What were all the spacers used for? Were they used to ....

bring the ride height up to a nominal level?

Default TruBeliever...nicely done!!! - I have may have access to a CNC machine.

IMO PSS9's are the way to go but I had no idea of that size spacer needed to make the kit work.
Looking to do the same after I complete one more project on my allroad.

If/when you get this dialed in and feel the spacer needs to be thicker or thinner, let me know if your allraod can stand a short down time. I have access to an audi nut w/a CNC machine. I'd R&D a full set of spacers for you, plus get your originals back, for a nice clean install. If others like myself want to do the same suspension, maybe a group buy could be arranged.

Where are you located?

TT
