I'm @ ~40k on my WR's and they still grip fine....
....they don't grip as well as when new but still adequate. Next year I will likely need to replace mine; not due to the wear bars but more so do to grip. That's pretty common with (non-Nokian) winter-type tires I've had before too.
I've never had any balancing issues on any of the 3 sets of Nokian's I've had. YMMV
