My quest has began......
this is an update to my original post (link below).
We test drove the AR tip today, seemed a bit sluggish (forgive me) at least compared to my A4, but we will test drive the 6- speed tommorrow, which I hear is more responsive and has less turbo lag.
I was a bit concerned about some strong vibrations while cruising at 60 MPH. The dealer said it was from excessive snow accumulation in the tire region (???)
I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has responded to my original post, you guys have been a great help.....

Most do feel that the 6-spd lags less, but the turbos are identical, so they're not to be credited.
The general feeling is that the Tip car's lag has something to do with programming. Only Audi knows for sure why the tiptronic allroad gets special attention to make it start a bit slow.
As for the vibrations, many have reported getting strong vibes when snow or dirt accumulates on the inside of the rim. Unfortunately the surface is not sloped, and the rim doesn't self evacuate. Others have experianced brake rotor related vibrations, and even others have found the Tiptronic's Transmission Control Module programming to blame. It might take some investigation to find the source of your testdriver's vibration.

Reset trick to help sluggishness with tip
As you may know, the tip is "learning" from your driving habits and adjusting accordingly. On a test drive car who knows what it has learned. You can reset it by holding gas pedal all the way down for 5 seconds when ignition on but car not running. Helps responsiveness at least on my 2001.

Paolo, Paolo!!! Do not believe the dealer on the subject of vibrations!! Read this forum - search word "vibration' - and see for yourself. This is a chronic, built-in problem with allroads. I have a 2001 and have been battling with Audi ever since I bought it. Had I suspected the trouble this would be I would have insisted they take it back, or pursued a lemon law claim. Beware.
