Fantastic dealer experience at Laurel Audi in Westmont, IL. From the salesman (James Jajack) to the sales manager (Kevin), the finance manager (Sarg)and even the prep person (Manny) who not only did a superb job getting the car ready, but even had extra windshield velcro for my I-Pass toll transponder. And finally, to the service manager, Jim Finch, who is the #1 reason I bought here. He's always treated us right. He drove the car this morning and didn't like the way it felt so he put front rotors, pads and did a 4wheel alignment this morning before I picked up the car.

What a great car! Heading out of town for the Easter weekend so get to really get a feel for the car.

Next week- order Vag-Com, 402 mod, yank the Servotronic relay, recode the windows and locks and transfer the PSK bar to the allroad.

Now I guess I have to change my name.

How different have those Zimmermans on your A6 been from the stock rotors? Did you notice any difference in break feel, or did they just not shake as much?

Feel was definitely different. Under normal driving it actually requires greater brake pedal pressure to stop which makes sense since there is less rotor material under the pad. However under hard braking, the brakes have much better bite since the holes 1)allow the gasses which build up under the pad to be scrapes away, 2)dust likewise, and 3)offer much better cooling.
Interesting side effect- front wheels collect almost no dust. the dust is likely going through the holes, into the center of the rotor where the radial vanes send it out centrifically instead of just creating a dust cloud which coats the rotors.
Would I do it again? For an Audi, I would probably go with slotted which will accomplish 1&2 above without taking away as much surface. On my 911 I went from slotted to drilled, but it gets used almost exclusively at the track where heat dissipation is of primary concern.

From what I've read, less surface area (drilled) also implied less efficient cooling... (As would also be the case for less diameter - or anything involving less metal.) Have you found this to be untrue in practice?

good arguments for any of them can be found though my research led me to slotted. Sounded to me like drilled was more for looks and resulted in a less efficient system, anyway lots of info out there and lots of drilled and slotted rotors at the track.......

The inner diameter of each hole just adds to the amount of material exposed to the air to allow heat to be exchanged to the open air.
