Nokian WR all weather plus with tread wear warranty....
I've been running Nokian all weather plus 17'' on my ar 4.2 since August 07, logging on about 35K KM...the tires are now toast. With the tread warranty set at 80K KM Kal Tire will duduct about 50% of the value for a new set.
I don't like these tires for several reasons but they are OK when you account in a 50% reduction for a new set. We all know that our ar's chew up tires twice as fast as a similar automobile.
Option #1:Keep using the Nokian all weatehr with the tread warranty and change them every 35K KM under warranty tread and save between 40-50% on tire costs and put up with the noise and other minor issues.
Option #2: Use the 50% credit and upgrade to winter only Nokians and use them from NOV-March, then switch to a summer tire?
Option #3: Ditch the Nokians and slap on the best for winter and then switch for the best in summers.
I do a fair amount of driving (45K KM/year), I need good winter grip since I'm regularly skiing, hicking, mountain biking and to get to these places it's either snowy roads or gravel roads in the summer. I'm not to concerned with performance tire.........as I will get into more trouble with the law enforcers.
Thanks to all for your valuable help.
Cheers.
Vincent.

Option #3. I'm pretty sure a tire company north of the 60th parallel, knows nothing about winter
driving.
Me, Hakk's in the winter, 512's in the fall and spring and GS-D3's in the summer.
My honest vote is for Option #2.

Re: Nokian WR all weather plus with tread wear warranty....
may not want the best summer tires on those summer gravel roads. You sound like the perfect candidate for WR. Try the new WR G2.
I have WR on my passat and have done 35000 km (FWD no quattro/4mo) and I'm showing 6 mm tread left - only 2/3rds worn. Wow, those ar's sure chew tires- quite the difference.
