Default Not automatically returning to level 3

I read that if level 3 or 4 are selected while in automatic mode the allroad should automatically return to level 3 (High) if the speed falls below 38mph for 30 seconds or it will do so immediately if speed falls below 19mph. I always have to adjust it manually to level 3 if I want it there. I've never seen it adjust to level 3 by itself. And come to think of it now, it never lowers to level 1 automatically, even at triple digit speeds. Level one only comes when I manually select it. My LED's are green indicating automatic mode right? Am I not doing something right or do I have a malfunction. There are no DTC's when I hook up my VAG. Would being 402'ed be the issue? ESP or ECU issue? Where does the info come from for the level system ECU or does it have it's own controller?

Default Question: Is the Orange LED lit up?

If so, then you are driving in manual mode and you'll have to change the settings.
If that doesn't help put the car in "Jack-mode" (hold both level buttons for about 10 seconds until all 4 green lights are lit up). Don't drive, just turn off the engine, let it sit for a minute or so and re-start the engine and change back to normal driving settings. Then drive it and see what happens. The number you've mentioned are not quite correct, it should change by 25,50 and 75MPH.
Good Luck.

Default The levels and speeds are in the owners' manual.

I keep forgetting the exact #'s for each level, but it is spelled out clearly in the manual.

Once set to L3, it should lower and return to 3 when you hit speed and return to stop.

Default Re: Auto return - do you have the factory installed tow hitch?

It will not return to level 3 (but stay at level 2) if the tow hitch (actually, the power/electrical socket/adapter) is connected (at least, with 2003 and later models). Apparently there is micro switch in the adapter which overrides the automatic height adjustment. Don't think there is any warning in the owner's manual about this.

Take at my earlier post on this

Default My 03 auto drops from 3 to 2 and rises to 3 again when below 20 ... wonder if you go fast enough to

auto drop to level 1 if it will auto return to 3 when under 20? Anyone try that yet?
