Default from what i've seen, you would be better off with 2.8 l heads and cams

cheaper then rs4 stuff and should give the same or more performance.

Default yup. search the B5 S4 snakepit for username boscoj

His real name is Jeff Doyle, and he's building a potent S4 motor right now. I've seen both heads (S4 and NA-2.8-liter). The 2.8 liter heads have much bigger intake ports. He says the intake cams have more lift, too. exhaust cams are the same part. Search on his engine posts and you'll se lots about this. Jeff's also a good dude, and i'm sure he'd answer your questions.

don't know about head prices, but 2.8l intake cams are $70 compared to $200+ for rs4 iirc
