Oil temp gauge not working
2001 AR, oil gauge not working.
Can I check in VAGcom if it is the oil temp/level sensor (recessed into the oil pan), or the signal to the instrument cluster or cable wire?
I changed the oil temp/level sensor on another AR not long ago, and it did NOT fix the problem. Want to make sure this time (sensor, and loss of oil when taking the sensor out).

Can you provide specifics of the sending unit?
location on engine (photo or description)
looks (photo or description, color, connector, etc.)
office name
sensor ID (in Bentley or VAGcom, those sensors typically have a letter/number designation, like G132 or so)
part number
source
I should be able in VAGcom to access the sending unit in measuring blocks, or? What module (likely engine) can I find the sending unit. Ditto the oil temp/level sensor?
This way I could use vagcom to determine if sending unit is not providing a signal, or if sensor is culprit.

This is the one I picked up.

For location, if you look at the left rear of the engine, behind the valve cover, yours could be grey or green, it will have a small plug on the top of it.
Best I can do right now as I am at work.

vtraudt, I need to apologize, my head must really be out of it today. I have been telling you about the coolant temp sending unit NOT the oil, forgive my absent mind.
I never tackled the oil temp so I am of no help. Again, sorry for the error.

Looks like this is the part number:
1J0907660B
(for 2002 Passat as well as 2002 Allroad).
I had 'none working oil temp gauge' on a 2.7T Allroad before. Changed this sensor, but did NOT fix my problem.
Before going through the motions again (on different Allroad this time), I want to 'test' with VAGcom to determine if:
- bad sensor
- bad wiring to sensor
- bad gauge
Suggestions?

Tracing oil temp wires
With new temp sensor installed and still gauge not showing temp, I suspect bad wire from sensor to ECU or cluster.
I would like to check for continuity from the sensor to wherever the wire goes.
Can some tell me pin number (and location of connector) for ECU or cluster or else?

fired up steam powered PC (only computer left with XP on it, only way to run prehistoric Bentley POS software):
Oil temp level sensor shows 3 pins:
- no 2 goes to ground 85 (in engine compartment wiring harness)
- no 1 black/red 0.5mm to connector T10o/8
- no 3 red/grey 0.5mm to connector T10o/9
T10o: 10 pin connector brown, connector station electronic box plenum chamber
Where is that T10o brown 10 pin?
What/where is the 'electronic box plenum chamber'?
From there no 1/3 go to T32/11 and T32a/15:
T32: 32 pin blue on instrument cluster
T32a: 32 pin green on instrument cluster
