Okay Shifters.. Did a search, sort of not really helped :)
So am I led to believe (which I should be) that the A6 and the Allroad shifters are the same (same basic car, so yes).
I'm also led to believe and with validating pictures I believe that the S4 UUC etcetc, Shifters will not work do the integrated shift **** slot into the shifter....
But wait... IF I used an S4 UUC shifter, couldn't I use an S4 shift *** and rid myself of the above listed issue (slotted shifter )?
If that is the case, do I need a 2001 UUC shifter or will the 2000 UUC S4 shifter work (something different between early 2001 and late 2001/2002)
Thanks
Tory

I think you will need the late shifter, but you will also need a new shift boot...
I have a Stratmosphere shifter that I almost installed...it seemed to me that the Strat shifter was actually taller, so I was planning to cut some off the top and then also cut the groove into it and then clamp the stock **** back on.
If you do a search in this forum someone has already done this and I think he had posted some pics.

Someday (maybe soon) UUC will be out with a short shifter
designed specifically for the allroad. At least, that's what they've told me. They say they're working on it - but they've said for three months "call back in three weeks" - so I have no idea WHEN it will be available.
My understanding is that the shift ****, boot and wooden trim piece are all assembled together.

Maybe waiting for 2002?
Maybe UUC is waiting until they can get their hands on a 2002 manual allroad to see if whatever they have come up with for the 2001 allroad will also work in the 2002. That would make sense and explain the delay. They still have my shifter from my 2001, which I sent to them to aid their development.

I'd wait if I were you.
There is more than just the issue of the stock shift **** not fitting the A6/S4 UUC shifter. Another major annoyance is that the pivot bolt on the UUC has clearance problems in the allroad. It means you have to assemble the two pieces down in the well, rather than being able to just drop in the already bolted together assembly. It's a major pain and a deterent to one of the slick features of the UUC, which is being able to choose between 20%, 30% or 40% throw reduction by moving the bolt between various pivot choices.
The last time I talked to them, they said they were addressing that with a slick new fastner. We'll see. Soon, I hope.
