Default Okay...what's the consensus on protecting your front end...

for the winter months only. The NE winters used to hammer my A4...all the sand and stones killed the front bumper and hood.

Luckily the allroad is somewhat protected by the molding, but does anyone here use protection across the front of the hood or something similar to protect the car from winter road debris?

I'm not sure I love the look of a bra...but if it will protect my car for a few months, it's worth it to me.

Any pics would be appreciated as well.

And don't be afraid to be honest...if they're rice, let me know.

Default Drive backwards.

Honestly, other than a clear bra, and/or a good wax, there is not much to be done. A bra is terrible on the paint, especially the soft clearcoat on our cars, and even moreso in the winter. A bit of grime gets between the bra and the paint at the edges and no matter how well the bra fits, it will rub marks into the clear.

Default Just the facts; the bra will stop stone chips but!

Will trap sand under it and gring paint, headlights not protected.

My car has had all the gray bits painted, and now going on it's third winter here (Sand galor) it shows the wear. I'm thinking that paint is due this spring.

What I did to protect the head light was to get some Clear Static cling from the signe shop and cut to fit. this worked will when new. but even summer rock hits on the lights have left them pitted.

Get glass coverage for windshield, and wash the car even if it will get dirty on the way home.

Default Sand blasting and road kickup suck....

it destroyed the front of my 90CS, so much so that I had to replace the headlights and fogs. I put on a clear bra and headlight/fog 3M film that I got front Claire Parts (www.claireparts.com). It also makes it easier to chip off hard snow and ice off the front during ski trips to the mountains. No worry about damage to the paint.

Default Tail gate a huyndai?

Al kidding asside...the usual Bra (black vinyl) will fog the paint when it rains, and then the heat of the ingine dries out the moisture. Every BRA tells you "Remove when raining" The best bet is the clear film you can use.. or just grin a bear it.. Weigh the cost of a repaint in 2 years v the clear film application.

Default I remember reading that about the bras

when I was researching them for my A4. I thought what a PITA to have to remove it when it gets wet.

Just thought I'd check if there were some new products out there.

Thanks for the opinions.

Default Yes a bra can be bad but this is what I do. Finman posted the use of 3M blue noncontact

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/41143/ar4.1.jpg"></center><p>
tape to apply on your front end. He does this to his S6. I do the same but I cover the blue tape with a bra. I do not take the bra off for several month at a time with no ill effects.
When the tape comes off the paint looks like new!
Bra alone will scracth the hell out of your paint.
It takes me about 1 hour to put on the tape.
Plus the AR bra has a large air damn on it and helps with stone hitting the upper part of your hood and windshield.

Default armourfend!

I have this on the front end of my a4 and my wife's ar. It is simple to put on and just about invisible. It survives MI winters with salt and junk just fine. Good luck.

Default clear bra. mine covers the front end, the a pillars, and the front of the mirrors.

from 15 feet you cant even see it, and even up close it looks better than a pitted front end. Check out my pic poster - it is on in every one of those.

It won't do anything for your headlights or windshield. Take Moto's advice on those and get glass coverage and replace frequently.

No problems with it.
