Default OT: Mountain Biking Lights for nightriding...

I own a set of Turbocat S32 lights. Beautifully made, anodized red, good light... but alas, they're only your standard halogen lights. They run for about 1.5 hours to 2 hours and They have that large water bottle battery.

I went on a big nightride this week with about 35 guys in the Santa Monica mountains. NiteRider came out to demo their lights. They have a new HID mountain biking light that is amazing. If you know anything about HID (Xenon)lights, they require a lot of power to ignite the arcs. Anyhow, it's an engineering marvel to have a true HID light that runs off a battery the size of two cigarette packs. And the best part is that it runs for over 4 hours on that battery.

And there is SOOOO much light from the HID bulb... pure white Audi-looking light while you mountain bike. I highly recommend it to anyone who rides at night.

Handlebar and helmet options...

Default Funny thing, I was reading about them yesterday & was wondering if they were as good as they said.

Thanks for the review & now my Christmas list just got a little longer!!! This week I just ordered a Chris King headset, Race Face ISIS Turbine LP cranks/rings, ISIS bottom bracket, XT rear cassette (11-34) & 2 pairs of SIDI shoes. My wife is gonna be pissed if I get lights too. he he he!

Default mine are the first generation ones....I've had them since july...

man are they sweeet! brighter then 99.9% of AUTOMOBILE HEADLIGHTS (leaving the .1% room for error for the xenon people out there 8^0 ) and man are they blinding! 20 times brighter then my digital nightriders. I guess I need to get 2 more since they changed the logo on the headset (neb can appreciate my logic =) .) I have one on my handle bars, and one on my head... and yes, I am THEE illumination guru...muhahahahahahaaaaaa

had to take the picture really fast before it powered up... otherwise all you would see is blue white light!!! when it powers up, it flickers pink, then a blue, then gets really bright white/blue.

Default Rear facing off your Thule?

Not sure what the voltage of the lights are but if you could use the 12V outlet & hook up a remote switch you'd be in business! Nothing would be more fun than blinding a tailgater!!!

Default Re: Rear facing off your Thule?

I recently bought the Light & Motion ARC, which is a HID light and I am extremely happy with it. Ridiculously bright and everything about it is extremely well designed and tough. The folks at Light & Motion are also extremely cool and are very customer focused.

They are at http://www.bikelights.com

I second the "lights in motion" product, it is great. I have done a few 24-hour races with them and thay have worked like a champ.

I have a set of first generation lights that have lasted for at least 5 years. This summer I also bought the same set that Neb has and usually ride with that set on my helmet. The lights rock!

Default H.I.D. is H.I.D. what's important is battery life... I've noticed that niterider has some of the

longest lasting ones... ( I know, I know, it depends on weather, and if you get a dud or not) I've seen light & motion...they state 3 hour times at full discharge but that really varies. (they run a 13.5w H.I.D. bulb and niterider runs a 10w one.) niterider states 4 hours and I've tested it... It last around 3.5 to 4 most of the time... sometimess style takes over me... the niterider system just looks better =) hehe.
