Default Passport 8500 Smartcord placement(hardwire)

For those who have hardwired a Passport 8500 where did you find the best place for the "smartcord" signal, mute control?

Thanks

Default Re: Passport 8500 Smartcord placement(hardwire)

I just stuffed the smart cord controller into the fuse box, and ran the cord up around the dash, under the A-pillar molding, and under the headliner molding and have the Passport suctioned to the windshield above the rear view mirror. Yes, you can't use the smart cord feature, but in this placement it is completely easy to hit the mute button on the unit itself. Also, it is a very clean looking installation.

Default Behind the steering wheel, on the left side. . .

On the flat surface behind which sits the speedo, tach, etc. Mounted with velcro. I use it more for the visual flash than to actually mute the sound (hard to reach around the wheel).

Good luck.

Default ditch the smart cord and HW to the vanity light

The smartcord has 4 wires - 2 for power and 2 for the mute switch. If you don't care about the remote mute switch you can use a regular phone cord to get power to the unit. I was going to tie into the homelink transmitter in the sun visor but I discovered it was much easier to splice into the vanity light circuit. Then run the cord under the head liner to someplace close to the mirror, drop the cord down and you have a very sano install.
