Picking up an allroad this week

Decided I need more room, and want something I can work on. Have a 2004 Allroad that I'm picking up this week. Front air bags are leaking slightly, and there is an oil leak, likely from the valve cover gasket. No oil leaks from the turbos, no noise from them. 116k miles, tranny rebuilt (with receipt) a year ago. Looking forward to tinkering on it. Going to go ahead and order a set of Arnott front air bags, and new o-rings for the air lines. Then I'll probably go ahead and do the valve cover gasket and associated cam gaskets while I'm in there. This will be my first Audi, coming from BMW/Mercedes, though I owned a bunch of VW's in the past. I also test drove a 2009 A4 Avant and I was amazed at how cheap it felt compared to the Allroad, no comparison really.

Oil leak might indeed be VCG, but also check the cam tensioner gaskets and rear cam plugs while you're at it. It will save you some grief later when, having replaced the VCG and are quite proud of yourself, you run the car and still smell an oil leak.
This may have happened to me. Maybe. Just saying. :) |
Yeah, picked it up last night and I'll go over it. If any of the upper gaskets is leaking I'll plan on doing all of those.

I believe with the cam tensioner gaskets and cam plugs, it's not a question if if they'll leak but when. Here's the writeup I used to changed mine.

Perfect, I was just about to start looking for a DIY writeup, thanks.

Nice ride!
Did you buy the Arnott bags already? Do you know where it's leaking? I just took my apart and it was just the inner o-ring. Wicked easy if your pinch bolt on the upper control arms aren't seized. |
