Default Power steering loss of power

I took the car into my indy to get the timing belt done and asked them to look at the power steering since I had been getting an occasional moan during low speed turning.

Well timing belt is done, and they said they drained the power steering fluid and re-filled it. Now during low speed turns I occasionally have no power steering at all. But it is not happening all the time. The indy says he has never seen this before and thinks there might be something wrong with the rack. He suggested I take it in to the stealer. I am not convinced, since this problem is completely new.

Is there a chance that this problem could be caused my indy letting air into the system by draining the fluid from the pump and refilling it, as opposed to flushing it with new fluid.

If so, how would I fix it?

Any other suggestions?

Default I would say the indy...

....either; 1) didn't get it filled properly, 2) used the wrong fluid, or 3) both.

Thanks, so next step is to flush with new proper fluid?

If it isn't moaning constantly, then I would presume that he spilled oil on the belt.

Default Actually since I got it back it isn't moaning anymore,

Just the intermittent loss of power during low speed turns.

Default sounds like the 604 is not engaging for low speed boost assist.

how does it feel in park?

Default It is intermittent in park as well.

Funny I never actually paid too much attention to the way the power steering felt in park.

But today when I try to turn the wheel relatively quickly there is no boost. Also just turning it back and forth you can feel the boost come and go.

I will bet it is a belt issue. When I wash the engine the PS acts just the way you describe.
