PSA for those with hitch, Block the wheels to the trailer before disconnecting. Trailer slid forward
and kissed the bumper. Now I have a less than perfect allroad.

that sucks..but there is another solution too...and easy on the back..
set your suspension to level 4.
Get a jack stand and put it under the trailer just behind the hitch point.
Set the jack as high as possible.
Disconnect everything but leave the two connected.
Lower to level 1.

No offense, but depending on the slope of the ground, I'd feel A LOT SAFER with chocks.
All that jack stand is going to do, is prevent the trailer's tongue from dropping to the ground. It's not going to do much at all to keep the trailer from rolling, at least not if I understand you correctly.

D'oh...It never occured..
to me, that you would detach on anything other than level ground.
I've trailerd heavy u-haul trailers, a garden trailer and mi little sail boat. I would never unhook on anything but level ground.
Yes, chocks make sense all the time, especcialy if you are not on the level.

Man sorry to hear of that event. I think it's wise to use chocks in all cases. Depending on the trailer they have a mind of their own, and can move with wind or other unrelated events. It's best to "chock" both in front and behind each wheel. I know it seems like over kill but as they say "an ounce of prevention....."
