Question about Tire wear. I bought 4 new Pirelli's Feb 2007

and the 2 year tires are worn big time. The front are still great condition. I've only driven on them for about 8000 miles since I live close to work.

Wondering why rears would wear out so bad when its quattro? Not like I do burn outs or anything.

Any one have an idea? Tires are 255-40-19 Pirellie Assemetrico.

what is the wear? is it even accros the tread or is it one sided?

or is it only the outer edges or only the center?

As Paulroad questions, I'd agree that alignment could be causing excess wear. It would also be reducing your mileage. Any damage to the car? How was the wear on the last tires you had on the car?

OC02ALLROAD 05-21-2008 02:24 PM

even all across. But again only the back tires.

OC02ALLROAD 05-21-2008 02:26 PM

Milage is horriable. About 15 miles per gallon. Last tires were on

stock wheels. Didnt drive on those much so I dont know if those would have worn out same. They are still great condition.

really strange..

I'm no mechanic but something is wrong causing excess friction on the rears.

I'd go back to the tire shop and ask them to investigate it and look at the warranty on the tires for not delivering the mileage. Being its even wear and the rears of an awd car you may have a chance.

yeah I though the same. Shop is gone (my luck). I dont carry anything

in the back either.

Just dont want to spend $600 for 2 tires and have them wear out again that fast.

Rear is out of alignment. Should have had an alignment done before the new set was installed.

A good shop will care to see the old tire wear patterns to help get the new settings right.
