Default Question on shift **** replacement

I searched the forum and read up on replacing the shift ****. It seems pretty straightforward: Take off the shift boot, pop off the clamp which holds the shift **** on the shifter, put on new shift **** and attach a new hose clamp.

I should receive today a 2001 wood shift **** to replace my 2002 and later leather shift ****. Before I go and massacre my shift **** and shifter is there anything else I need to be made aware of? For instance, are the 01 ***** a different size than later versions? Thanks.

Default Yup, wood is threaded not clamped, you will need to thread the shaft. And probably

make a spacer and retainer for the leather boot. If this is a 6sp, you are speaking of.

Default Not according to the following link . . .

http://www.norcostco.com/shiftinstall.htm. Could there have been two different shift ***** manufactured for 2001?

Default curious.......where did you pick up an 01 shift ****. I priced

them at the dealer and found them to be relatively expensive.

Default Shokan

Years back, when I was originally looking at the allroad I loved the way the wood shifter looked. When I took delivery of my 02 I was shocked to see that they replaced it with the non-descript leather one. Shokan has one salvage allroad. When I saw the shift **** I immediately inquired. $45.
