refinishing metal shifter gate...
...my ar has a few decent-sized scratches in the polished/chrome tip shifter gate (so much so that I'd have to remove the gate to fix).
I was thinking about different finishes (brushed or satin aluminum sounded nice), but I think I'll have to do a polished one so that it fits with all the other polished surfaces in the car.
Anyone help me with directions to remove, or maybe suggestions for finishing?
TIA.

That was nice. It is/was a $250 part - at least on my car it can only be ordered as a part of the
underlying electronics that are attached to it.
The dealer replaced mine as part of an electroncs malfunction I was having with my TIP, and left the protective plastic stactic-cover on it. I've left it on too, as that's the only way to protect that cheap piece of plastic. My old one was a disaster. The one on my 4.2 was also trashed, after only 20k miles.
Are newer ones replaceable???
