RNS-E install for C5 A6/S6/RS6/allroad: Part II and III
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/32631/teddybgame_rns-e_installed.jpg"></center><p>Ok,
So I have finally finished my install pictures and had them posted online (mucho thanks to Lee Hicks "NSX Jr" for starting his website and hosting my pdfs). If you go to www.nsxjr.com, (downloads section) you'll see my old Nav+ install pix (84 slides) and the 56 pdf slides of my RNS-E install (plus Lee's install pix from his 2001 A6).
Most of the information in those 56 slides is applicable to the pre-2002 crowd (but I included some info for the 2002+ crowd), as the RNS-E install in a 2002+ C5 is very...very straight forward (plus, Nene, Justin and others have thoroughly documented the 2002+ install). In fact, anyone with a B5 A4/S4 can probably benefit from this content too.
Here's what I documented:
1) Slight modifications to plug/play adaptor etc.
(most anyone who installs the RNS-E can benefit from this)
2) Upgrading the climate control faceplate to the 2002+ color (optional activity)
(only applicable to those with a pre-2002 A6/allroad)
Sourcing one of these was a bitch....but anyone who is **** enough will want their dash to look complete.
3) Building plug/play adaptor for OEM SAT tuner and OEM Phatbox or Ipod IceLINK or Blitzsafe audio interface (optional activity)
(most anyone who installs the RNS-E can benefit from this; the parts list will cost you about $50 for this. This assumes that you have the OEM CD changer cable installed.)
Also, for those of you contemplating the RNS-E upgrade, I keep an updated thread on www.navplus.us with all kinds of info for the C5 community (my install pix will be linked in here as well). I updated it every two weeks or so...if there is any new developments that are applicable to the C5 community. All of your questions can be answered by reading this thread and the appropriate links. You should also consider downloading the owners manual (190+ pages) for more info on functionality etc.
Lastly (this comes up a lot), if you are considering buying an RNS-E package, go to www.navplus.us and click on the "For Sale" section. There are 2-3 brokers that import these units from "the motherland". The 4B0 units for the C5 A6 are a hot commodity as the B5 A4/S4 folks
Most brokers will charge anywhere from $1300-$1500 for a complete package (unit, plug/play adaptor, map dvd, gps antenna etc). I do not sell these unit, I only advise on how to install them.
Enjoy!<ul><li><a href="http://www.navplus.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1003">RNS-E for C5 Community: your quest starts here....</a></li></ul>

Is RNS-E really that much better than RNS-D?
Because wouldn't the RNS-D work for the pre 2002 C5 better than the E? Also, I really dislike that new grey color, why did they switch from black? Crazy.
I'd almost want to go with RNS-D just to keep the black! haha.

With D you have to change the CD's on the Fly...
With E you have everything on the one DVD + the internal 2 slots for the smart disk? (mp3) cards can eliminate the need for a Ipod or Phatbox.
