Default Roof Rails

Will they ever be clean again?

I just purchased a 02, the roof rails are silver and really "cloudy". I have tried everything up to lastly the Adams 1/2 metal polish. They are now much better, but still not clear! Has anyone discovered a way to clean up the trim pieces on this thing, (rails, windows, rear lid) or am I looking at paint?

Default I hit mine once a year with the PC buffer and the Klasse all-in one when I am doing the rest of the

car. seems to work on the aluminum at the bottom of the doors too.

Is this about product or labor?
I have used several products ending with the Adams 1/2. I applied that with a microfiber towel by hand. If I only "worked" harded would everything be Clean and CLEAR once again?

Default it is about the random orbital buffer doing the work for you.

presumably you could work it hard enough by hand to do the job, but the buffer makes life MUCH easier.

Edit - also not sure what the Adams compound is but you need some good polishing compound that will cut into that haze.

Default Just a thought but can these be coated with something? Reason I ask

is that I bought my ar after a lease and the prior owner lived in Florida and had the windows tinted very nicely and I wonder if the aluminum trim was sealed or something as mine all looks brand new and I'm now at 75k. Now I don't use the rails for bikes and carriers and stuff so maybe that is it but the side trim takes a pretty good beating with rocks and weather and salt. Just wondered.

Maybe I am expecting too much.
I have a good shine but looking closely at the rails - reflections are very distorted and you can see "clouds" in there. Possibly deposits from some soap?
Do yours show a reflected or brushed look.
