Default Considering a 2005 Allroad. How is the reliability?

Hi guys, I'm looking at a 2005 Audi Allroad as a sort of graduation gift to myself. I like the car allot but am a little concerned after reading about the transmission problems that seemed to plague the older models. I have heard that Audi has since started using a new torque converter and that the 2005 has the new variant. I however can not afford to have a transmission fail as I am about to further pursue my education and will have to drive a long distance every day. Also this particular car that I am looking at has a bad thermostat and I would like to know how hard and expensive that is going to be to repair. Thanks Guys.

P.S. Is 6.5k a good price for a 05 all road with 103k miles?

Great place to start since the AR force is strong on AW!

Yes, the later models (pre 2004 vin number specific) had torque converter issues but since you are considering a 2005 model (hopefully 6sp-if you can find one), I would say go for it! From the looks of it you've done your homework. Which says a lot for someone that is considering a 9 yr old wagon. With that being said, it all depends on how the previous owners took care of the allroad. My wife an I have had our 2004 AR for 4.5 years now an aside from the normal maintenance - we've replaced two front air bags (w/arnotts), entire gasket refresh up top, one throttle position sensor, and full timing belt kit. I have to say we've spent probably less than $2500, since ownership because I do most of the work my self. In all, I love my allroad and everything it has to offer! I hope this helps you out - good luck.

Default Find a 4.2

Engine is much more reliable, Torque converters where upgraded in 05 as well.
