Default SAT Upgrade clarification..

Its easer in a new thread.
I spoke to Anchor.. it is a national promotion and only takes a few minutes. It a plug and play module XM or Sirius.

You must have a sharkfin antenna as the special does not include any antenna. So it is good for 2004+ N/G for my allroad. But the Cab will get it on Saturday.

Maybe those of us with a Commander unit could splice in the antenna from that? It doesn't NEED to be up on the roof as part of the sharkfin. Mine sits on my dash at the windshield. Works fine. Not plug and play, I admit, but might still be possible. I also admit to not be a car stereo expert, so may be way off base.

Default I don't think you'd be any better off. The attraction (for me) was a seamless approach which is

lost if the offer isn't for the head unit as well. As it stands, you and I (2001) would still need the Commander head unit since we don't have the button nor the electronics in our current Audi Symphony/Bose head unit. I checked in to buying a fin so as to integrate an after-market install with a oem look on the outside (no separate XM antenna) which is doable, but the real attraction is losing the Commander head unit mounted somewhere in the cockpit and looking like what it is - an add on. Since this doesn't work for us, I'm looking to install my Commander in the ashtray, and the tuner in the CD Changer spot in back and run the antenna up just behind our current antenna location on the roof in order to keep it as clean as possible.

Default Good point

My Commander faceplate is fastened onto a matal plate that is tucked up under the piece of trim around the dial that turns on the headlights. It's more secure than it sounds. From there, the cable runs with a bunch of other stuff down there where your knees are near the steering column, all neat and tidy, and is connected to my HU via a Blitzsafe adapter. I keep meaning to take a picture of it, but it's very out-of-the-way and professional looking. Occasionally I knock my knee on the faceplate getting into or out of the car, that's the only problem.

Yup, that's the one. I was going to put mine behind, but I like that solution too.
