Satellite Radio. Couple of questions.
Hey everyone!
The other day my satellite radio started showing the 'Updating' message on most channels. I haven't got NAV set up on the car; I just have the normal Symphony II with SAT option in it.
I read a pile of threads here covering it a bit. Most of the threads talk about having to update it with an MMI disc but I'm just trying to understand what the system is actually doing. So here are my questions:
1. Is the 'updating' status normal or a bug?
2. If it's normal, do I just keep the sat radio on until it's done updating? If it's a bug do I need to track down an MMI disc to make the update?
3. Because I don't have a NAV display, is it possible to just pop this disc in and expect it to update via the Symphony's standard LCD?
Also - it sounds like some dealers are reluctant to sell this disc, but is it *really* an issue to buy one? It's a part # like any other. I've got other parts to pick up anyway.
Also - just as a general question. I picked my AR in the fall from an indy. SAT was already fully functional in there so I never set up the original account to run it with XM. Was there ever a buyout option for the service or is someone getting my SAT bill right now?
As always, thanks!

You have a prepaid XM subscription
Your XM account # is located on a sticker in the glove box or on a sticker the XM module itself. If I remember correctly XM can look up the subscription info. off the VIN of the car when you call them. You've got an excellent set up that is a cake walk to upgrade to FACTORY NAV+. See the next Qustion I'm asking...

Updating is normal ... Anyone know it the TPMS module on the BSN-e is the same one as RNS-e uses?
Updating on the XM display is normal (Using the RNS-e). Here are my thoughts on it occurring so frequently. It may have something to do with limited memory (Buffering capability). My Denali's XM never had any messages appear. I'm pretty sure that the VERY short relationship Audi had with XM prompted them to use an early technology XM tuner thus never having to update its hardware.
Anyone know it the TPMS module on the BSN-e is the same one as RNS-e uses?

Re: did you activate a SAT account? ie sirius?
No - I didn't. The original owner must have set it up when it was purchased new. I just bought the car in October, flipped it to SAT and that was it. Just working. I figured a renewal of some sort would rear its head but I didn't bother looking into it.
