Secondary Air Injection Pump-Failure
I heard the dreaded plane taking off noise in the mornings, when i took my 2002 allroad (60K) to the dealership they said it was the secondary air injection pump and combination valve that needed replacement. My extended warraty warrantech says they won't cover it becuase it is an emissions related component? is there any truth to this, what are my options, i really don't want to spend $1800 out of my own pocket. Any advice. thanks.

Hmm. The pumps fail all the time, but I haven't heard of the valve going.
Don't wait until the pump completely dies - the backflowing exhaust will ruin the plastic fresh air tubing (another $70 part).
The SAIP costs ~$400 or so, and R&R is not more than 1 hour. Somebody here (Trango) found a Denver source for rebuilt pumps at <$300 ea. I have one in my car now.
I don't know about the warranty claim, but the $1800 estimate sounds nuts to me.

They used to sell just the valve blocks. much cheaper. Craig isnt at genuineaudiparts
anymore, but he used to sell just the valves. You can also be refurbished pumps now. Think the pump itself was about $400 bucks from carson or craig.

Bad news, good news, see inside
Bad - Many warranties do not cover emissions components
Good - Most factory new car warranties cover emissions for longer than the standard new-car warranty coverage. In many states, it's 7/70K or even 8/80K on emissions related items. Check your owner's manual, and/or call Audi USA, to see how long your emissions coverage is. I'd bet it's covered.
You'd be amazed at how much stuff falls under the emissions coverage...much more than you would think. Do not accept dealer explantion, they usually want to sell you stuff, especially these days when car sales are slow. Reading the emissions warranty in the manual is the best way.
Good luck, and remember I get 50% of the savings if this turns out to be helpful.

Re: Secondary Air Injection Pump-Failure
Unless I misunderstood the part online, I just ordered a Bosch pump for $250 from ECS. I've previously removed my bad SAI pump and used silicone on the seals to stop the noise, but CEL still shows. It's pretty easy to remove and/or replace and I'm no mechanic. I'd look into just the pump before replacing the kombi valves and see whether it helps.
The guy above said 'valve blocks', but isnt that term limited to the suspension?
