Servotronic? Tip mod? 605?
So, Ive read the diy for this mod but dont understand what it is for? Can anyone explain this to me? I did a search but still dont understand the reasoning behind it.

this mod is for steering feel, some pull module to increase feed back/feel I switched mine

This module allows more steering "boost" (which limits feel)at lower vehicle speeds, (but basicly turns off at speeds over 70mph, don't hold me to that value, but it is somewhere around highway speed) allowing for reduced input steering force to manuver the vehicle, it does however reduce the feedback from the steering wheel (which some find undesireable)
The problem with just pulling the relay is
A) if the wife drives the car she may not like the weighted feel of the steering (pulling the module makes the steering resistance higher/heavier how ever you want to put it).
B)things like parallel parking or other low speed manuvers require a stronger input from the driver to turn the wheel.
C)Removing/installing the mdule requires pulling the panal from under the dash (time consuming, and not a comfortable position to be in for very long)
The best option im my opinion is to make the module switchable, so that it can be enabled/disabled on demand (only have to pull the panal from under the dash once). Some have actually cut the wiring harness that controls this module (I don't reccommend this)There is a way to modify the module itself (much cheaper and easier to replace than a wiring harness, plus won't void warranty)and install a remote switch for easy operation.
See the link below (and pic above), this is something I did a while back (Yes I am quattro0001,-lost my account information and haven't figured out how to get back in) If you have any questions on how to do this, I will do my best to walk you through it.

https://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/16561.phtml</a

it makes the steering wheel feel "heavier"
compared to the "light" feeling the stock one has. i pulled mine and havent looked back. gives it more of a sporty feel, feels similar to the wheel on my A4 did.
obviously its not for everyone, but if you drive around on it for a week or so and decide you liked it better before, it is easy enough to reinstall.
also, a good middle point between 605 and no servotronic is the 628 plug from later allroads. not as overboosted as 605, but makes parking and such easier than no servotronic at all.

Re: this mod is for steering feel, some pull module to increase feed back/feel I switched mine
I felt my 03 needed the mod, but my 04 is much better stock. I think they changed relays from the 605 to a 628, but not sure.

I actually have one of those "octopus" harnesses if you want to try the 605 tip mod...
...basically a kill switch for servotronic when you switch into tip mode.

Re: Yes, they did change the module from a 605 to a 628, to improve "feel" not sure of year though
my 05 feels like its pretty boosted at low speeds. i can turn the wheel with one finger and i kind of like that. maybe i have the later relay in mine? i was just curious as to what it did for you as a driver.

I have the 605 moded with a switch on the dash to enable/disable its operation
For low speed manuvers (parallel parking, tight spots, etc.) I agree, the full boost is nice, makes jockying into the spot a lot easier, but it does seem a bit much (kinda' numb feeling) in city type driving, boost does not drop off untill you reach Freeway speeds. I prefer a bit more feedback/resistance, (I guess more of a sport feel) while driving at in town speeds. After modifying the 605 module with a dash mounted switch (which most of the time is turned off), it has become almost instinct to switch it on just for tight parking. Plus the added feature is my wife does not like the added feedback/feel and if she needs to drive my car she switches it on (overboost/numb setting) and leaves it that way, when I get back in, I turn it off (sport mode). It is a lot easier than having to remove/install the module all the time. :^)
