Should I buy a 2001 or 2002 allroad?

Well...
If you're gonna buy and drive it into the ground, then get the 2001. If you're gonna lease, then without great money factors from AoA, it would probably better to get the higher residual on a 2002.

Absolutely no differnece unless....
I believe tuning, suspension, steering - all technical/mechanical specs - is the same (carry over) so it would be (virtually) impossible to base the choice on drive...
However, if you thought the new amber colored turn indicators on the rear, leather shift ****, clear side markers, solid black numberplate surround & removal of the "man" button on the center console makes it drive better, (not to mention several standard features changed to "optional"), then I too would go for the 2002... 8-)
I'm just teasing!!!! Okay?.... 8-)
Since the "changes" from 2K1 to 2K2 can be missed if you blink too quickly, a decision should be based on getting what you REALLY want at the best price possible regardless of year! 8-)

Re: drove em both - preferred 2002
Well, first I should say that I was not considering an allroad and hadn't given either a second look so my decision wasn't informed.
I test drove a 2001 as a time killer while I decided which A6 I wanted and ended up driving around for an hour (other vechicle test drives were < 10min).
Having had a 99 A6, one thing I didn't like was the wood shift **** and the slightly complicated up/down switches but I looked at them as a learning opportunity.
After I returned excited about leaving with one, the dealer told me to drive the 2002. I did and it just felt better - quieter, a bit more solid and the ride was better. Maybe I'm nuts but that's the way it seemed. It could of been just those.
Looking for an unbiased opinion I brought back my wife; she immediately balked at it being a wagon! After driving them both she was sold on the 2002 as well and at no prompting from me she had the same opinions. So we left with a atlas 2002 and it's awesome! We call it our winter sports car.
