Default Is the sunroof roar a normal noise?

When we have the sunroof open more then
halfway and exceed ~30 mph there is a loud
roaring noise through the sunroof.

Local dealer states "that's normal", is that true?

Is there a "fix", dealer described a deflector
that I can buy to attach to the roof of the car.

thoughts?

Default Not normal; check the adjustment of the pop-up wind deflector. Try moving it up/down by hand a bit.

Mine pops up so the bottom edge is flush with the open roof.

Also try opening only to the Comfort setting position at the **** marked detent.

Default A roar? or a thumping noise....wind buffeting?

The wind buffeting is normal. Open the rar windows about an inch or so. Or close the sun roof a touch. There is a set position, one click from full open.

Default doesn't sound normal, but what we may have differing opinions of what "roar" means

If the sunroof is ALL the way open and you do not have any windows open you will hear a distinct air buffeting sound. To prevent this audi has a setting just shy of all the way open for windows up driving.

Default As you are turning the sunroof dial about 3/4 of the way open you will

feel some resistance. This is the "optimum" position to avoid the wind buffeting or thumping. You can feel/ hear a differece at 30 mph if you go past this point to have it full open.

Default Sounds like an RTFM situation :-)

Select comfort position on the selector switch.

Default I'm gonna defend this one: the turbulator is NOT large enough. You should be able to fully open...

...the sunroof without having that buffeting that induces the special "just decended from 30,000 ft. with a cold" effect on your ears. I'm driving a friend's bimmer while the AR gets a pre-roadtrip checkup, and it's got no problems with aerodynamics with the roof fully open--even at 80mph on the freeway (though it is plenty loud at that speed)
