tire choice
 

I need your help choosing tires. Right now I have the OEM tires, they're good for another 5k.

I am looking specifically at these 3 tires, any comments or ideas would be appreciated thanks!:)

And if anyone has had these, how good is the tread wear on AR?

OEM are crap tires PERIOD.

Micheline.. known for vibration and bad manners. But its Z rated and the others are H? Z is where the allroad belongs.

GoodYear, middle of the road tire with a high cost.

You can do a lot better and have a better performing tire for the same or less money.

Look at Discount Tire Direct and the Flaken Ziex 512. I've had three sets and they are great and Z rated and under 95.00.

My Kunho Ecsta ASX are compliant in the dry and rain (but I hear don’t perform well in the snow- even though were I live I haven’t had the pleasure of testing them in that environment).

After 15000 miles they are becoming a bit noisy, but have about 50% tread left. All in all, I’d buy them again.

I have the same tires on my Allroad, my Lexus ES300 and my MINI Cooper S, I'm very happy with them, needless to say! As to snow use, they're no snow tire, but I haven't had any problem getting around in any of my cars with them........mine are about 1/2 worn but I'm not getting a marked change in road noise from them......for the price (about $85 ea from Tire Rack) they're quite a good tire choice........

Ha, ha. OEM tires were never good, not even for the first 5k!!

Try anything, but those ASX get panned for winter use by some.

I've run mine thru two winters so far, and we really haven't had a lot of snow so I don't know if my experiences will translate to those in real snow country, but I did have one morning where I had to go to the plant - a 20 mile drive - before the plows had made it thru. There was about 8 - 10" down and it was still snowing heavily. I made it thru with no drama, but I don't know if it was the tires or just the competency of the Audi all wheel drive. Still, either way no problems. I think if I lived where there was heavy snow or snow down most of the winter I would buy actual snow tires, but for the occasional stuff we get here in the midwest - even when it's heavy - the Kumhos did fine for me.
