Falken Ziex

I had Falken 512's on my Saab and got the Ziex 912's for my wife's A4. It was my impression that they did well on wet pavement, not too bad in the snow. Those on the A4 are starting to look like they may need replacement in the next year, so they have not lasted as they were warranted. Maybe 20,000 miles to 25,000. When mine were wearing I got a set of Continental ProContacts on my Saab and they are great tires (on that car). Now I have the Allroad I will defer to the experience of the forum members.

I'm located a little south of you in Chicago...

Personally,I am lovin' my Yokohama Advan S4 for 3-seasons. I actually ran them thru the first winter without any problems. Grippy enough in midwest cold weather, very good performance on the highways and decent in light snow. I added dedicated winter tires this year (Michelin Pilot PA3) and was REALLY pleased with the upgrade.

I understand the cost issues, but I was really pleased with the Yokos if you only swing one set, they could be a serious option.Check out Tire Rack for details.

I assume you change out the tires on the rims you have? Or do you have a secon set of rims?

Yes, I just swapped tires on the same set of OEM twinspoke rims to get me through the year. Quite manageable.. However, I just got a new set of wheels for the summer, and I will mount the winter tires on the OEM Wheels. It should make the seasonal installation even easier next winter.
