towing with an '04 allroad?

Hello all allroad peeps. I am a new owner of a 2.7 six speed allroad, 2004. It was cared for like a supermodel by a close friend its whole life and I have to say, I am quite enraptured. Feeling the power present in this quite amazingly well rounded vehicle, I am now thinking about getting a travel trailer. I am open and grateful for any advise on the topic. Any advise at all. Thank you and all the best

I tow with my 2004 all the time, however you are limited in weight - I think its 3500lbs.

You also need a special hitch, and the only place I know of to get one is actually on this forum....do a search and you'll find the thread.

I towed with my 03 Allroad 2.7T 6MT and it was a breeze. I kept the hitch when I sold that car, knowing I'd have another. I'm now on my fourth C5 Allroad, this one a 4.2 tiptronic and this weekend I cleaned up and installed the old hitch that had been sitting in my garage for about 8 years.

If you decide to tow, find either the OEM Audi Euro hidden hitch (like Bosal or Wesfalia) or the USA -made Justin hitch (search forum). Both involve bolting through the frame rails into hitch anchor arms. Any hitch that involves bolting to the spare wheel well or other sheet metal is useless.

I tow regularly with our '05 Allroad converted to 6MT. Sometimes it's a 6X8 utility trailer or a 6X8 enclosed trailer. I once towed the latter so full of tools and furniture the weight broke a spring. I've towed many 1500-mile trips to and from the mountains of Colorado and Utah.

Helpful pic. Is that removable? What brand and model is that, please? Thank you.

Here's what a Bosal hitch for your Allroad looks like:

The arms go inside the frame rails and get bolted through the holes with the bumper bolts. The ballmount will go inside the structure in the center of the crossbar.

The far superior Justin hitch (designed similar to Audi's OEM hidden hitch) has similar arm that get anchored into the frame members the same way and the ballmount receiver can be any one of several designs for trailer balls, bike racks, luggage shelves, etc. I'll try to get a picture to add.
