Default To wax or not to wax?

Just got my new Allroad and waxed her for the first time (skipping the roof). What do you existing owners do regarding the roof? Do you apply wax or treat it in any way other than a regular wash?

Default Re: To wax or not to wax?

Other than washing I have not done anything to the roof or other lower-body plastic parts. Everything still looks new after 8 months. I try to wax the painted surfaces about once a month.

Default I use Zaino Brothers wax and...

I wax the entire car. Yes - the roof and the matte fender flares too. I have not noticed any white residue or any discoloration. I would try it on a very small hidden area first and see what it does on your car. Different waxes may behave differently.

Good Lock

Default Zaino the whole works.

In my experience, a few nice coats of Zaino don't diminish the matte finish, yet somehow make it slicker. Go figure. As for the wax you're using, just make sure it doesn't have any abrasives...then again it may be too late already...

Default Re: Zaino Z-2?

Just checked out the Zaino Bros. site. Are you using Z-2?

Default Zaino's not a wax (and that's a good thing!)

It's a polish - and a good one at that! Since it is absorbed into the paint, there isn't anything between the eye and the paint to appear dull.

But IMO it therefore doesn't provide as much protection from everyday surface contaminants. It's really meant for show cars that aren't ever exposed to the elements, and is the best product on the market for that purpose.

I've spoken with Sal Zaino about this subject, and of course he knows a helluva lot more than I do. But IMO it stands to reason that something that sits on top of the paint will offer better protection than something that doesn't.

Default Thanks for the feedback...

It seems that there are some Zaino fans in this forum. I have already waxed all the trim and it looks as if the roof is fair game as well.

Thanks from a ZYMOL fan.

Default I don't know how to gauge "protection"...

...but when I Zaino my ar and my wife's Beetle at the same time I conventionally-wax my daugher's Honda, the Honda always needs it again much, much sooner...
