Default Weekend Saga

This weekend it later poured, about an inch and a half. That evening I noticed my lights were on. Weird, I had turned them off. Went out there, verified, started the car they went off after I shut down. Hit the lock button, nothing, was 11pm, I'll deal with this in the morning. Well morning came around and I was dismayed to find my lights very dim. I knew that the car wasn't going to start. So I just undid the battery to stop the bleeding.

Did some searching, and came to the conclusion with Paulroad that it was the typical hazard relay module. Once I unplugged that, the lights would go out, and I put a charger on the battery overnight. Went to the dealer this morning and picked up a new relay. Plugged it in, lights right back on. SOB.

Headed home now to investigate further, thinking it was the stalk. Pulled DTC's a bunch of low voltage as expected. Called the dealer, they don't have one, but the VW dealer 10 minutes further away does. Call them to verify. I'm on my way over there. Windows are fogging up a lot. Strange. Hmm... no locking, no interior lights, the stalk isn't adding up. Text my buddy that bought my heavily modified B5. "That sounds like your convenience module to me." Hmmm that does sound right. Reach down, and my floor is SOAKED.

Get home and start ripping it apart. Pull out the box and you can see the result. There are NO signs of water infiltration from the interior of the car. Only thing that I can think is that there is a hole behind the plastic (ahem protective) box that appears to be a drain. I had backed into my driveway which is steeply angled. I think that the rain came down the body and into the drain.

I just got finished cleaning/drying everything out. All working now except locking and interior lights. About to head out and see if it is a recoding issue, or something more.

Does anyone know if the central locking is handled from the same Control Unit under the driver's seat??

Default Group 35 - Too many communcations error to continue...

Not sure if I should just order a new one, or wait and see if it dries out. At least at this point, I have turn signals, just don't have interior lights and the central locking options. Can live with that (for a while).

And yes, I just found out that the battery drain was clogged. grrr. thanks audi.
