Default When turbo goes, does anything else go as well?

Does turbo failure cause other engine parts to fail as well? How much to replace w/ OEM turbos (as opposed to K04s)?

Default Yes, the other turbo.

they have to be replaced in pairs.

I believe OEM and K04 run about the same amount to buy and of course they are teh same amount to install.

Default Turbos (pair) will set you back about $2.5k and labor is about $1k if you find an independent shop.

When the turbo dies, it could destroy the O2 sensor, catalytic converter, downpipe and egt sensor. Don't you have warranty? What mileage?

Default turbos and timing belt makes the 4.2 seem a decent choice ;-)...

although turbos have been lasting longer than in the old days of pre water cooled and after engine shut off cooling. I used to consider turbos like tires and batteries- a wear item that will need replacing. Now they seem capable of lasting the life of the engine, with chipping maybe having an effect of shortening life somewhat. Synthetic oil must help. Good luck!

the timing belt will cost a few thousand to get replaced on the 4.2. It requires pulling the motor.

Except on the allroad's 4.2, it's a chain. What's its lifetime?

Sometimes precats can get clogged with oil and so can oxygen sensors.

Default If you continue to drive, you risk to loose oil and cause other damage

Happened to me (2.5 TDI, diesel with one turbo)
