Default Who has installed piggie pipes? What is involved?

What has to come out to get them out and back in? I have access to a 4 post lift - is this something I can do myself in a few hours?

Very interested in doing piggies along with a GIAC chip. Also, are these any good? Much cheaper than other 'systems'.

Piggy pipe sale link

Default Drive up to Boulder some day....

1. I have done this job twice now, and I have heaps of applicable tools (including one wrench I ground down to expedite working with one particular nut).

2. I have access to a demo hammer, which makes pigging your actual pipes easy. Definitely worth $300 to do the job yourself. Oh yeah, it would be better if you bought a new bit that I could weld on and modify to make the job a little easier... but that's TBD.

3. You need new exhaust gaskets (stamped metal); otherwise, this is a no-cost activity.

Oh yeah, you don't NEED a four-post lift, just some car ramps. I'm used to grovelling to save cash, so YMMV.

Just some thoughts. Paying $300 and all the shipping BS for something that can take less than an hour to do for both sides...

Let me know. I accept beer as honorarium.

Default Ok I am apparently not as "hooked on phonics" as I was led to believe...

...I didn't read the part about the access to a lift.

If that's the case, dude, it's super easy. Well, "easy" is a relative term. It's.. straightforward. You remove the heat shields via three allen-head capscrews on each side, with long extensions. Maybe 5mm? Can't recall.

You also remove the o2 sensors front and rear, the sliding clamp holding the exhaust together fore-to-aft. Heatshields also get removed - use antisieze when you put these back on... you can also dip the business end of your allen socket into said antisieze to make it sticky enough so that you don't lose these bolts when you remove them.

Then, you just have those delightful 17mm nuts holding the pipes on.

Oh yeah, let me know if you snap the bolts holding your exhaust clamp together, and I can weld some stainless jobbies in there (what I did). Mag chloride is hell on those fasteners.

Totally - sure. I'll grab the demo hammer and we can bang those out... pun intended.

Default So piggie pipes are just stock downpipes with hollowed out pre-cats?

That's enough to free up another 20+ hp? Reading a little more about them, that raises another question for the DIY-er. Am I going to need to move an O2 sensor bung?

So I have a 4 post lift in my garage (and a decent amount of tools). I use it mainly with my racecar, but I can squeeze the allroad up on it. A 10 ft ceiling doesn't allow something tall like the allroad to go up that high, though. But it's better than ramps.

Speaking of which, I have a pair of Rhino ramps too. Have a mig-welder too, but am an amateur at best using it.

It seems like we should set up a day where both Andrew and I knock this out (with your help of course and beer provided). I can buy additional tools also or augment from my set.

Default busy

with work and kids activities for the next couple weeks. that and it seems like a reasonable time to do exhaust too, and my wallet still needs to heal from the alcon purchase last week.
