I do not think it can be done, AR grills are a totally different shape...
you should know this coming from an A6. The AR grills and the 98-01 A6 grills are almost identical. Not only are the grills different sizes but so are the hoods. Sorry as far as my knowledge it cannot be done.

I've thought about doing it, and I would say the best bet is to
buy an RS6 grill and cut out the center of the existing allroad grill, or perhaps an A6 grill which is slightly different and easier to work with (crossbars set in deeper) and cut the center out of the A6 grill, then lay it over the RS6 grill as a template. Cut it a bit overtsize at first then slowly reduce it to wedge into the allroad grill surround. Epoxy the backside (no epoxy visible from the outside) and be gentle forever after when closing the hood.
It should work very well. You might also predrill some small holes and use some very small screws to hold it in place on the backside.
It would be one of a kind, and OEM all at the same time.
Have fun!
