Wow! Repairs and parts are expensive for this car.
I slid into a curb (not that hard, really) in early January and bent the suspension around the right rear wheel. The total repair bill was $3000! (Plus two months without my car while the dealer waited for parts.)
Hell, even a simple key/remote replacement is $150.
I shudder to think how much it would cost to maintain this car to 100k miles. Based on this experience I don't think I will be keeping the car past the warranty. The risk of expensive repairs is too high for my comfort level.

I'll be the guinea pig
I'm out of warranty at 55K miles and decided to completely skip any type of extended warranty. I will never go back to the dealer with my allroad and I plan to do any and all maintenance and repairs myself. I'll be here posting about my maintenance activities as I venture into uncharted territory.
Of course sliding into a curb is a comprehensive claim. That is an accident and not maintenance in my book.
I know there are others on the forum with higher mileage than me. I hope to learn from them as well.
Fingers crossed!

Similar accident in an Acura Integra...
cost 5k to fix.
So, 3k makes the allroad seem inexpensive! =)
But, as RMcQ points out, accident repair doesn't qualify as maintenance... and Maintenance on this car is expensive.

'01 w/Tip and over 60K miles with extended warranty... 8^)
So far the extended warranty has covered what has needed to be fixed. For example, last friday my driver side wiper arm decided to try and mate with the passenger side one (the nut came loose stripping out the grooves on the arm). Dealer replaced no cost and threw in a Audi Sport hat ta boot.
Interesting thing about the wiper arms (for those of us that did not know this), the hole for mounting the arm onto the wiper mechanism spindle is smooth. The grooves are cut when tightening the wiper arm on. According to the mechanic, if the arm stops working and the mounting hole is still round (not egg shape), clean any metal shavings from the spindle and reattach the wiper arm -- should work fine.
