Since nobody's asked this yet... who's planning to write in names for the ACNA ballots?

Mike S from the Chicago land chapter had some insight.

If nobody reads this unlinked to forum, I'd say we go to the regional boards or club Presidents for the word.

This is assuming the ballot & election are even found valid.

ACNA election we're talking about.

:-)

the by-laws do not provide for a write in candidate

deepquattro 10-24-2008 09:58 AM

The by-laws must exclude them...

Robert's Rules states that there must be an exclusion, otherwise write-ins are valid.

Of course, the way the current board is, as they have so many times already, they would simply ignore RRO and apply whatever rules yield the results they desire.

If people complain, I'm certain their attitude would be 'Sue me.'

S4_Loki 10-24-2008 05:44 PM

Our bylaws also do not say that Robert's Rules are the adopted parliamentary authority.

deepquattro 10-26-2008 08:29 PM

But the Codes of Ethics does...

Of course, you can always ignore ethics when you find it convenient, right?

S4_Loki 10-27-2008 08:39 AM

To be clear, the ethcis say they will be used when needed.

And, to quote the Robert's Rules web site

************************************************** *********************************************
To adopt RONR as your organization's parliamentary authority, the society should insert the following into its bylaws at the appropriate place (RONR [10th ed.], p. 15, l. 17-25; p. 561-62, 569):

Article #
Parliamentary Authority
"The rules contained in the current edition of Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern the Society in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with these bylaws and any special rules of order the Society may adopt."
