On-Board Charger

In reading some of the posts here and other literature, mention is made of the standard on-board charger being rated at 7 kWh with an optional 11 kWh charger available but I didn't see any reference to that option in the configurator. Anyone have more info on this? Thanks.

11kw (not kwh) is for Europe power connections (230V x 16A x 3-phase), they also have the option of 22kw (230V x 32A x 3-phase). Its 230V per phase but you will often see the voltage referred to as 400V when talking about 3-phase because that's the voltage between phases.

US is limited to 9.6kw (240V x 40A x 1-phase)

Actually, 22Kw isn't available in Europe yet. I was told end of 2019

OK thanks - now that I have my kW and kWh straight it looks like the only available size of the on-board charger on the US e-Tron will be 9.6 kW which was used to calculate the estimated Level 2 charging time at home at less than 10 hours (95 kWh battery divided by 9.6 kW charger)

That is, if you were brave enough to go to 0%, and are charging to 100% (taking into account that there probably is a margin built in). It will rarely be 10 hours :-)

True...I think I read the reserve is at least 10%.

The usable capacity is about 82.6kwh. However, you have to consider the charging efficiency and the charge rate tapering when figuring out the 0-100% time to charge. In the case of home charging, you probably won't see any tapering and the efficiency is roughly offset by the reduced usable capacity so your estimation of about 10 hours is probably close.

As fideba said, it's rare and you'll more likely be charging between 20-80% on a daily basis.

Actually 10 hours is Audi’s estimate - I’m not smart enough to figure that out😊
