EVSE current draw comparisons
Audi EVSE:
120V: 8.0A 240V (100%): 37.6A Juicebox Pro 40: 120V: 11.8A (via NEMA 5-15 cable adapter) 240V: 37.6A Chevrolet Volt EVSE: 120V: 11.9A Your current draw may be slightly different depending on the the voltage at your house and if you're using an extension cord (Audi doesn't recommended this but it's possible). One unexpected result is the somewhat low current draw from the Audi EVSE at 120V. When using the Chevy Volt EVSE (120V) or JuiceBox Pro 40 (120V), the e-tron charges 50% faster. Getting a Juicebox Pro 40 (and 120V adapter) or an old Chevy Volt EVSE might be good for anyone travelling or stuck using 120V. |

But in summary, you are saying if I use the Volt EVSE, it will charge at 12 AMPs on the e-tron?
Yes, that's the results of my testing. There were many versions of the Voltec EVSE. I have a 1st gen Volt but the EVSE's probably provide similar outputs. This is what mine looks like: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...b124709271.jpg |
I added to the results in the original post for charging from the JuiceBox Pro 40 at 120V with eMotorWerks NEMA 5-15 adapter. Regardless of the current limit set in the JuiceBox, the vehicle will only draw 11.8A. Based on these and the Volt EVSE results, this is probably the limit for the e-tron charger at 120V. The e-tron reports 1.2kw charge rate.

Yes, my vehicle is reporting a 1.2kw charge rate on my Volt EVSE also. However, the e-tron charger at 120V is delivering a constant 0.8kw. Any reason why our e-tron charger is charging lower than other units?
With Audi charger at 120V. 0.8kw charge rate. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...3a90156aa7.jpg With Chevy Volt 120V EVSE. 1.2kw charge rate. |
