Highway energy consumption testing
 
For those that enjoy this type of data...

I ran highway energy consumption tests today. Four identical 40-mile trips along interstate 90 and returning along the same path. Four speeds were tested: 60, 65, 70, and 75. There are no major hills or mountain passes along this route and the highway maintains a fairly steady grade. There is an overall elevation change of 544 feet, however, this is mostly negated by driving back along the same route. There was also a 5mph wind that was also negated by driving the same route. Roads were dry and overall these were optimal driving conditions with ambient temperature about 76 degF.

Test setup:
2019 e-tron Edition One
21 inch stock wheels
Drive select set to Efficiency
Interior climate control set to 71 degF (Eco A/C)
Sunroof shade closed
Cruise speed set via dash gauge (not via GPS) with lane keep assist on

The shared Google spreadsheet is a good idea. I'd like to put one together that has all the test parameters available so we have a good resource for understanding range influences.

For anyone looking at the above range chart, don't read too much in to the plot shape. This is due to the limited resolution of the energy consumption values on the dash. The estimated ranges are approximately +/-4 miles. I'll fit the curve later when I have a better software tool.

This must have taken a good bit of time to put together. Thank you so much on behalf of everyone here. Thanks also for the rigor. This is the most useful data I have seen anywhere thus far and quite encouraging.

This is great stuff! Thank you for doing this. The data certainly agrees with the theory that energy consumption increases linearly with speed. (air resistance goes as the square of the velocity but then you divide by the velocity so the net effect is a linear relationship)
