Home Charging Options
 
With one on the way, it seems like it might make sense to get a charger going. I see Audi has partnered with Amazon local services, but I donít see why just buying your own and going direct with an electrician doesnít make more sense.

Does anyone know of a list of the chargers we can use, and is there a difference between the power output the e-tron can handle? Iíd be interested in finding whatís the most powerful you can install.

Just started the process the other day. Using the amazon site and answering a few questions online they estimated my install cost to be $3800! Called a private electrician who will run the line and install the charging unit which we will purchase for about 900 bucks. I've ordered a JuiceBox Pro 40 which Max's our at 40 amps and requires a 50 amp breaker. They make a 75 amp version but a 100 amp circuit is too much for our system. Excuse my typing I'm waiting for my grandchild to be delivered and it's getting close.

The E Tron on board charger is 9.6 kW in the US. If you get a charger like the JuiceBox 40 Pro, it can provide 10 kW charging. You need a 50 A line so you don't keep tripping the fuse. You'll need a NEMA 14-50 plug to plug the Juice Box into. The Juice Box 40 Pro is $579 on Amazon. There is no need for a Juice Box 75, since it exceeds the capacity of the E Tron, unless you want to "future proof" your charging capabilities.for a future EV. The price of the electrical work depends upon how long they have to run the line, is there any trenching required, etc.

Plus the JuiceBox 75 requires a 100 amp service (breaker), 4 gauge wire and a hard-wired connection. JB 40 should just be just fine.

My Edition One is currently leaving the factory, so I am also working out the charging details. I have a new NEMA 14-50 240v outlet installed in the garage. What is the advantage of buying a Juice Box (or other chargers) over using the factory charger that comes with the e-Tron? Thanks!

I too would like to know what the L2 options are for the Etron. I have a 8 year old 32 AMP evocharge Amazon unit and it has worked with minimal issues for me. I'm debating my upgrade options, most likely I'm not going to upgrade at all. 7.2 kwh charge rate is plenty. Is the 40 amp worth it?

If you're driving a normal amount daily, 32 amps is fine. If you're driving 50 miles a day, you'll still be recharging in under three hours. If you have a NEMA 14-50 and you're in a rush, you can always use the EVSE that comes with the car and get 40 amp charging.

Agree...and even if his existing plug is a NEMA 6-50 there are adapters available to allow the use of the NEMA 14-50.

Fairly sure i have the 6-50 with a 40 amp breaker, hence 32 amp charger. I did install with 6/3 wire to go to 50 Amp if I felt like it.

What is the advantage of 14-50 over 6-50. Additional neutral? I'd have to run a new wire and Home depot near me does not have 6/4 wire.
