Will do. I used it last night to go from 20% to 100%, I'm going to start capping at 80% now but I'll report back next week.

Does anyone know the part number or if it is even possible to order this black box/cover from Audi. This is on display at my local Audi dealer and they say it can only be ordered as a kit, Audi part # 8V4-971-675-AN (clip mount, charger unit, black box/cover and stand) for $1,800. Since the charger unit and plug pig tail already come included with the car, I only need the box to make it a very clean mounting system on the wall. I know Audi parts are expensive but this is insane.

I have a dryer outlet in my garage. I purchased the JuiceBox New Dryer EV Charging Adapter NEMA 14-30 from Amazon $34.00. They have the 3 prongs or 4 prongs dryer plug.
The adapter works great with the Audi charger. As others have mentioned, the charger defaults to 50% charge.

Whats the sacrifice on charging time. I think it’s typically 9 hours to charge at 100% power (40amps) so does it mean at 50% (20amps) it will take 18 hours get a full charge?

If this kicks it down to 24 amp (which I think it would) then that's 5.8kW so from 0% it'd take 14-15 hours to fill.

at 50%, my dash was showing 10 mph and 4.3 kW ( so a little lower than 50% of 9.6 kW ), there are probably efficiency loss, but close enough.

Thanks! I’m in a rental and the landlord had some initial concerns about allowing a new circuit to be installed. I told him if I could use the dryer outlet I would. So based on your stats you’d be looking at 20 hours for a full charge but topping up overnight would easily get you 80 to 100 miles

Where you charging with AC unit on? Because when charging the AC unit draws power from the charger, which means there is less power available to charge the battery.

Gabriel

No. but the car was on (to see the dash stats) and climate control off, and the stats coincide with monitoring over the next hours of the SoC % and range.

Also some words of warning, if you use a dryer plug or adapter:
- if the wiring line is long, poor quality, dirty contacts, most chargers will detect the voltage drop and reduce the amperage to reduce fire risk . ( in my situation there are 6 gauge wires and only 30 feet length and all new breaker + socket)
- if you use an adapter / extension cable, please don't pick up a "questionable / made in china / UL-listed counterfeit" ones, only buy from reputable sellers and cable/adapter design for EV, as we require continuously load for hours. Unlike a dryer and welder, which are not 100% cycle, and some of those cable/adapter use aluminum instead of cooper wires
