On a related note, I am now considering building my own with OpenEVSE.com kit, I like the open source aspect, and will get stats during Internet Outage or JuiceBox server outage( or out -of-business). - not for everyone, but I have background in Embedded Linux. and DIY many things.

I'm curious your thoughts on non-Audi EVSE (either purchased or in your case DIY) vs. just using the audi-supplied EVSE? I know this is discussed some in other threads. Based on my understanding, arguments for a non-Audi EVSE would be A) it's nice to have two level 2 EVSEs one that stays with car in case one runs into a situation where it could come in handy (e.g., friend or family visit where they have a 14-50 outlet available) and B) the apps and settings of a non-Audi EVSE allow one more flexibility in how and when to charge.

On item B above, it seems from discussions from those who have taken deilvery, that between the myAudi app and the settings in the vehicle, some of these benefits are natively supported (e.g., start time for charging). My plan is to postpone purchase of a third party EVSE until after I take delivery of the car so I can reach my own determination but just curious your thoughts and if I'm missing a big benefit?

The myAudi app will continue to work with all EV Supply equipment (EVSE), technically the unit is not a charge. it is just a smart relay, that a) tells the EV to not draw more than XX amp ( or kW ) b) safety - e.g. ground fault c) there is no step-up or down of voltage or AC to DC converter.

Another benefit of JuiceBox pro and OpenEVSE ( and others) is the Wifi connection enabling the world of IoT, that aggregate data to a web server and there is a user portal to look at trends. Also the networking allow future smart-grid features. e.g. the power plant can advise the best Time-of-Use in real-time, base on the regional supply-n-demand.

If you have two EVs and a single outlet, two Juicebox's can communicate with each other to not draw 2x current at the same time.

Wall-Mart went through their inventory really fast - out-of-stock already.

This has been the price @ Costco for some time, if you are a member, that is.

Also, Amazon's price was $499 for the 40AMP 240 volt unit, too.

Thanks - I checked Amazon first and only saw a $549 price. My "members only" price at Costco was $549 too.
