Charging system malfunction

My 2021 sportsback had an issue with a level 3 charging station some time ago. I gave up after reconnecting 4-5 times and always getting the red light on the port. Fast forward to last week and tried to connect my home audi charger (level 2) to the same port on the driver side and getting the same red light on the port with a charging system malfunction message in the car. Passenger side port still works fine. I can only assume the port is defective/malfunctioning? No way to troubleshoot or reset?

Shouldn't there be error codes present?

Tried again. Played a bit with the connector pushing slightly up and the LED went white and finally green. I'll have it checked out during my next service.

Ahh, yes it might be the outlet on that side has gotten a little "loose". It's not uncommon at HVDC chargers for a person to have to "lift and jizzle" the nozzle a little to get the pins to contact.

This seems to be an inherent flaw in CCS DCFC. I sit holding the handle up until I get green as standard as I have had so many more failures when I don't. And it isn't just Audi, my daughter has a Bolt EV and that also requires the holding of the handle up on CCS until it starts. I have helped several out with different brands at EA stations with simply holding the handle up.

I just had the passenger side port give me the red light with a public level 2 a week ago and then again when I got home. I supposed we're lucky we have 2 ports to use. I use the driver's side port 90% of the time so would no think that the outlet is loose on passenger side. What ended up happening with your port? Did Audi replace it? Mine is at the dealer now for routine maintenance and they diagnosed it and are replacing the "charger unit" under warranty.

Any issues since yours was repaired that I should consider?

I went to two Audi dealers to have it checked out and both could not find any problems nor recreate the issue. I showed them the screenshots of the error message and the port light being red but they had no explanation. I have been lucky since I haven't encountered the issue since but I am always worried it will pop up again when I need to charge far from home.

Yes I think I would have been more concerned if it had been the driver's side port being that is the level 3 capable port. I suppose I should be pleased that they are replacing some component under warranty as I get nervous when some problem just magically goes away without finding some root cause. The "charging unit" is on order now and will take 3-4 business days so my car will remain at the dealer but fortunately, I arranged for a complimentary loaner which I will keep until the repair is completed. (it's an ICE so I will have to go to gas station). I make a point to use both ports (passenger only now and again) to ensure both are working. I will probably increase my use of the passenger port from now on to make sure the repair is effective.

I wish you continued "luck" with your port.
