Faulty Pre-Sense Problem
Today I took the car to the dealer for the "squealing brakes" TSB (2056700/1) issue and the "charging port won't unlock" TSB issue (2057353/1). I told them about the pre-sense problem I had. After the technician was done with the software update and confirming that my brake pads needed replaced according to the other service bulletin he told me he queried the pre-sense system and saw where it had fired erroneously. There was a fault code thrown by the camera in the windshield (the one right in front of the rear-view mirror). Basically, pre-sense uses the windshield camera, the front camera in the grille above the license plate, and the radar sensor to determine if there are any obstacles in your path. There was apparently something wrong with the windshield camera. If it had been working properly pre-sense would not have been triggered and the brakes would not have been activated. After contacting the mothership in Germany, he was told to replace the windshield camera and send the faulty one back for examination.
So, the new camera has been ordered along with the new brake pads. When they arrive the dealer will come and pick up the car from my workplace and take it to their workshop and replace both.
I'm not overly concerned; the vehicle has been otherwise wonderful to drive these last two and a half months. I'm just posting about this in case anyone else has had pre-sense go off for no apparent reason under conditions of limited sensor visibility. You might want to have your dealer check it out.
BTW, no problems getting my dealer to apply the charging port software update or replace the brake pads for the squealing issue.
